雅思词汇：be all eyes 不要理解为“全部的眼睛”，它另有它意

       正常人都有两只眼睛，当 eyes 用来描述一个人时，它的数量最多就两个，那么 all eyes 就显得没有必要了;如果我们要表达某人的一双眼睛，通常用 sb's eyes，而不是 all sb's eyes，由此可见 be all eyes 另有它意。

　　不知大家是否还记得 be all ears 的用法;对于一个人来说 ears 和 eyes 都是成对出现的，因此我们不用 all sb's ears 来表示某人的两只耳朵。Be all ears 表示全神贯注或聚精会神地听，例如：

　　She had expected him to be all ears when she told him about her wedding plans.当她告诉他她的婚礼计划时，她原以为他会全神贯注。

　　同样地，be all eyes 用来表示全神贯注地看或目不转睛等，相当于 pay close attention to sth，例如：

　　The children were all eyes when the magician started performing.当魔术师开始表演时，孩子们目不转睛。

　　We were all eyes as the celebrity guests emerged from the car.当名人来宾从车里出来时，我们都盯着看。

　　All，意为“所有，全部，全体”等，是整体性地考虑总体，这是它与 each 的主要区别之一;当 all 作为限定词与其他修饰成分(如 the，this，his 等)一同修饰名词时，它永远都是排在第 一位的，因为我们说 all my plants，而不说 my all plants，说 all my friends，而不说 my all friends 等，例如：

　　我的花草全死光了。正确：All my plants have died.

　　错误：My all plants have died.

　　我所有的朋友都去上大学了。正确：All my friends are away at university.

　　错误：My all friends are away at university.

　　所有的鸡蛋都破了。正确：All the eggs got broken.

　　错误：All eggs got broken.

　　然而 all 修饰名词时，名词前面并不总是有其他类似的修饰成分;当 all 单独修饰名词时，有的时候表示一整类人或事物，相当于 every + 名词，如 all children，指的是所有的孩子，不管高矮胖瘦等;all horses 指的是所有的马，不管什么颜色等，例如：

　　All children love stories.所有的孩子都喜欢故事。

　　All horses are animals, but not all animals are horses.所有的马都是动物，但并不是所有的动物都是马。

　　这就是为什么我们不用 be all the ears 或 be all the eyes，因为当句中的主语出现时，他们的 ears 或 eyes 就一目了然，没必要特指;这里用 all ears 或 all eyes 就是强调所有的耳朵或眼睛，用来表示“全神贯注”;接下看一下有没有定冠词 the 修饰名词所带来的不同，例如：

　　你邀请的人都会来。正确：All the people you invited are coming.

　　错误：All people you invited are coming.

　　第二句的 all people 明显不合理，因为你不可能邀请全世界的人，此时必须用 all the people，又如：

　　所有的人都必须吃饭才能生存。正确：All people have to eat in order to live.错误：All the people have to eat in order to live.

　　第二句中的 all the people 不合理，因为所有的人必须吃饭，用 all people 表示所有的人。
